Barcelona coach Xavi blames referee for club’s Champions League defeat

AFTER the defeat on Tuesday, October 5, 2022, Barcelona have now lost their first two Champions League games of the season, despite sitting third in the group table.

The latest has not been heard from yesterday’s Champions League game between Inter Milan and Barcelona which saw the game end 1-0 in favor of Inter Milan as they got three points from the game.

This time, the Barcelona head coach, in a post-match interview, blamed the referees for his club’s loss in the game, due to a decision taken by the officials, which can be seen as controversial.

The controversial moment of the match

With Inter Milan a second-half goal, Barcelona had found the back of the net with a strike from Pedri, which was then knocked down for a handball by Ansu Fati in the build-up to the goal.

Barcelona could have found an equalizer from the penalty spot during stoppage time but were denied the opportunity after VAR officials ruled Denzel Dumfries had not committed a handball offense despite the fact that he touched the ball in a very similar way to Ansu Fati.

Xavi insisted that the referees explain their decisions to reporters.

“I think the referee should explain himself. He should come here and explain himself, but he just went home.

“I think they should talk. It would be important for them to talk to explain their decisions like we do. I think it’s fundamental,” he said.

After Tuesday’s loss, Barcelona have now lost their first two Champions League games of the season as they sit third in the group table.
