Tambuwal splashes N10m on handball players and officials

1 Govt. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto The state has donated 25,000 naira to 400 participating national handball competition players and other officials to encourage the development of the sport.

2 Tambuwal announced the donations during the closing ceremony of the 2022 National Boys and Girls Under-12 and 15 Handball Championship at the Giginya Memorial Sports Complex on Sunday in Sokoto.

Tambuwal said investments in sport are aimed at reducing restlessness among young people and making them more productive as well as shaping their future.

6 The current administration has constructed a modern 11,000 capacity stadium in Kasarawa, multi-purpose sports halls, an indoor arena and upgraded various sports facilities.

11 Dalhatu said the government has revamped state-owned football clubs and other sports teams, with improved allocations, provided them with buses and other sports equipment.

12 He said Sokoto United football club had made progress in tournaments, adding that the national handball team, Rima forwards had recently won gold medals and become champions at the national youth games in Kwara.

15 The third in the series, teams from Kebbi, Sokoto, FCT competed for the honor in the boys U-12 category, with host Sokoto State with two teams.

16 The teams that competed for the honor in the boys U-15 category were Kebbi, Sokoto, FCT, Caliphate Academy, Suleija Shooters, Zamfara and Katsina.

17 Three C&S teams FPS Academy, Kebbi and Sokoto, just like in the U-12 girls category also battled in the U-15 girls category.

18 In the boys U-15 category final encounter watched by a huge crowd, the host team, Rima Strikers, supported by the raucous fans at home, took the game beyond the reach of their opponent, the boys of Equity by Kebbi, at the start of the first half.

The Rima Strikers marked their supremacy, finishing the first half 12-2 apiece.

The U-15 boys final game ended 21-8, in favor of the Sokoto boys and medals were given to all winning teams.
